MENTORSHIP & EDUCATION
Unlock My Genius is an initiative by Eight Million Stories designed to empower young people (3rd-12th) by recognizing and cultivating their unique strengths, talents, and potential.
The program provides participants with opportunities to explore who they are, develop confidence, and pursue pathways that align with their passions and skills.
Purpose & Vision
To help youth identify their “genius,” their natural gifts and inner potential.
To build self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of agency in young people.
To shift the narrative from barriers and limitations to opportunities and possibilities.
Core Components
Personal Development Workshops – Sessions that guide youth through self-discovery, mindset building, and leadership skills.
Mentorship & Coaching – Pairing participants with mentors who can help nurture their talents and give them practical advice.
Creative Expression– Outlets for participants to showcase their abilities through art, writing, performance, or projects.
Pathway Exploration– Exposure to education, career, and entrepreneurial opportunities that align with their identified strengths the past three years, Eight Million Stories (8MS) has focused on addressing opportunity gaps experienced by historically underserved youth in Houston—particularly those who have been disconnected from school and work due to systemic barriers.
